Lucky Girl

I think my husband is the absolute best. If you are married, I hope you feel the same about your spouse. If you do, I hope you let them know it and thank God for the blessing.

God truly sent me the perfect person for me in this world. No one else could make me this happy, take care of me or put up with me the way Ben does.

He has been so sympathetic and encouraging the entire pregnancy. He listens when I complain, which let's face it, is a pretty common occurrence in our house. And he tries everything he can to make things better for me.

For instance, when I can't sleep - he insists on sleeping on the air mattress so I can have the whole bed to myself. He even sets it up beside our bed because I don't like to be alone at night. He does this like it is his honor and is excited when I get a good night's rest.

When I threw up a dozen times a day for 20 weeks, Ben cleaned my puke bucket. I know, it's gross. But it's true. I honestly don't think I ever cleaned one myself. And he did it without complaining. He brought me water, crackers, Gatorade, liquid jello, wet wash cloths and rubbed my hair until I fell asleep.

When my feet are swollen he makes me sit with them propped up and when I try to get up to refill my water glass, he insists on doing it for me so I can stay seated.

When I make a list of things that need to be done before Asher gets here, he happily works his way down the list and asks me what else he can do to help me.

He goes to every OB doctor's appointment with me. Even the pointless ones where they just weigh me, take my BP and say "Everything looks great! See you in a week." and send me on my way.

When I am craving a frozen coke he drives to Burger King to get me one.

Whenever we talk about becoming parents to this sweet little person growing in my tummy, his eyes light up and I know he already loves Asher with all of his heart and will teach him to be a caring and wonderful man like he is.

When he gets a fancy new camera to take pictures of our baby boy for his birthday, he wants to spend the day taking photos of me and my belly at the Botanical Gardens. And with every picture he exclaims, "Oh that was a good one! You are so photogenic. I love you." Even though I actually look like a swollen whale.

When I wake up crying in the middle of the night because I am about to scratch my skin off. He helps me apply ointment and prays over me for healing.

And finally, when I call him crying because my stupid dermatologist won't help me with my rash, he secretly goes out and buys me Beauty and the Beast (which came out the same day as my appointment with Dr. Worthless and happens to be my favorite Disney movie. I have been counting down the days till it came out of the vault for like 3 years now.) and a box of oatmeal bath. After our tour of the hospital that night, we come home and he surprises me by drawing me a bath and setting up a portable DVD player beside it, turns down the lights and tells me to relax and watch my new movie while the oatmeal does its work. I am not usually a fan of taking baths, but this was pretty relaxing and seemed to help a little. Even if only to calm my nerves and remind me that I am one Lucky Girl!

P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AUNT JOYCE! We love you!
